Ok, not really, but a lot of people have encouraged me to keep up the blog. I think it's cool that people are interested with what I have to say. My favorite blog site "The Hundreds" said the key to a successful bog is to update it daily. Well, clearly, daily isn't happening for me, haha. But hopefully I can keep it up at least weekly.
Enough small talk... so I am back from an incredibly blessed summer in Washington, D.C. where I was interning at LVA and also in a program at Georgetown University. My entire summer might need a blog for itself, but in a nut shell I came back with new amazing friends, experiences that I will never forget, knowing more about me, a new love that is now gone, confirmation for a career path, a zeal for More Than Dance, and now I am ready to hit the ground running with my last year in school. Here is the D.C. fam. that I came out with, love these guys to death.
SN:D.C. was nice and I would recommend anyone to live there for a summer during their college career... buuuuut I could never live there, not in the city any ways. I will NEVER take southern hospitality for granted.

What do you see?
Here's an ordinary median in Winston-Salem. This particular one was only accompanied by a couple of street signs, but usually there is a homeless person roaming up and down the median with a "Homeless, please help. God Bless You" sign. Today I was thinking, I wonder how they got to this point? What they were thinking the first time they had to write that message on the piece of cardboard? And how it felt the first time they actually stood on the median to ask people for spare change? I gave this guy some change today as I was waiting for the light to change. To my surprise I saw something that I didn't expect, something actually kind of scary. This guy looked about in is 20s and maybe had made some wrong decisions that led him to this point. But as he took my change and said, "God Bless You" I looked into his eyes and saw absolutely no hope left. A person with no hope is a dangerous person... to themselves. So I guess my next question would be, how can we help to prevent homelessness and provide hope to the hopeless? What do you see when you look at the median?

My trip to Verizon (I still say Alltel)
At the Verizon Store today, this lady is getting her phone checked out. The guy helping her says, "So, what happened to it?" She says, "I dropped it in water." He replies ,"What kind of water." I think, "What kind of question is that?" She says, pause..."Drinking water..." Then the lady sitting next to me ask me, "Do you have a knife?" WHAT!? Lady why in the world would I have a knife with me at the Verizon store? Not a good conversation starter. Also, I am really glad I cut my hair before I started greying. So I wouldn't be "that guy" who still had braids past his prime. And I hope that my style of dress will mature as I mature, I saw too many older people wearing colorful sneakers and bright clothes. Its amazing what I saw in the 30 minutes during my trip to Verizon.

J stands for inspiration
Today started off kinda of slow, I woke up early because I had some phone calls I was expecting and some emails to send out. (I like saying stuff like that because it makes me feel important, haha.) Once all of that was out of the way, I realized I still had stuff to do, but felt kinda depressed. Why? I was asking myself if this non-profit internship was worth it, what will I do after college, about relationships, etc. You know, the usual college age questions. The more I thought, the sadder I got... until I got to dance (although I had been dancing all day anyway).
JRaww, some high school kids who are crazy at dancing and are the definition of raw talent, let me come into their rehearsal so I could get down with them. Here's a few of their team members. Honestly I think a lot of them have more skills than I do. Thanks for pushing me to open my mind further and explore dance deeper. Check them out on facebook. Big ups to the Institute of Divine Arts for providing a space for young dancers to develop and shape their craft.
It's crazy, but this studio is in the middle of this old school mall that no one really goes to anymore.

False Advertisement
Coming back from this awesome leadership conference, LeaderShape, I was pumped to get some stuff into action. So I decided to stroll on over to Starbucks today and get some emails out and make some phone calls. Happy to see "Free Wireless" on the front door, I walked in ready to do work. Plugged in my laptop, expecting to easily connect to the internet... then stupid AT&T wants me to pay $2.99 for 2 hours of use. So I gladly packed my stuff and went where the advertisement is real, BOARDERS. SMH at Starbucks.

This is hmmm... my third blog now, haha. And I have been really bad with keeping them current. But I am a changed man... hopefully. I like to think that my life is pretty interesting, it seems like I'm meeting a lot of cool different people, going new places, and experiencing new things. And some of my stories are completely random and ridiculous. So without saying too much more welcome to, MyLife as Mikey
